Assistantship

 

These positions are open to full-time graduate students with preference going to graduate students in the Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Development, or similar fields focusing on counseling, education, and learning. Each position varies in responsibilities and pay. Positions include:

The Graduate Professional Assistant position is designed for a 20 hour per week work commitment and a 9-month contract. At times, the work may require extended hours and/or night and weekend work hours.

The Graduate Professional Assistant (GPA) position will consist of the following compensation package:

  • GPA stipend, $17,640, will be paid out incrementally on the 1st and 16th of
    the month for the duration of employment contract period;
  • Tuition grant up to 9 graduate credits at the in-state rate, not to exceed
    $6,000.00 per semester;

Graduate Assistant for Residential Engagement

The Graduate Assistant for Residential Student Engagement - Student Involvement is a 9-month staff member who promotes residential community development through social, cultural, and educational initiatives and activities. The primary responsibilities include initiating, implementing, maintaining and evaluating efforts in the residential area that will result in social, cultural, and educational growth for the individual student and the entire living community. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Residential Student Engagement - Student Involvement. This position is a shared position working with both Housing and Residence Life and Student Involvement at George Mason University.

Graduate Assistant for Residential Academic Engagement

The Graduate Assistant for Residential Academic Engagement is a 9-month staff member who supports academic initiatives and Learning Communities in the residence halls. The primary responsibilities include providing assistance to the Residential Academic Engagement team in managing crucial processes, assisting in the creation of marketing and recruitment materials, and communicating with various stakeholders.

Graduate Professional Assistant for Residential Student Development Initiatives

The Graduate Assistant for Residential Student Development Initiatives is a 9-month staff member who supports the recruitment, training and development of undergraduate student staff and the implementation of retention and student success initiatives in the residence halls. The primary responsibilities include providing assistance to the Coordinator of Residential Student Development Initiatives in creating on-going training and development opportunities for student staff members, assisting with the implementation of the Residential Curriculum and developing services and programs to support early intervention and retention efforts.

Graduate Professional Assistant for Community Standards

The Graduate Assistant of Community Standards is a 9-month position, with the opportunity for continued work during the summer of 2023. The primary responsibilities include the implementation of a robust student accountability program focusing on the residential student population. This role facilitates individual awareness around decision making and promotes responsibility, courteous living, and community accountability. The Graduate Assistant of Community Standards at George Mason University contributes to the shared mission of the Housing and Residence Life and the Office of Student Conduct in conduct case resolution. Responsibilities fall into the categories of Case Adjudication & Management, Education, and Administrative Operations.
